[ad. L. prostȳlos adj. having pillars in front, also n. (Vitruv.) a. Gr. *πρόστῡλος: see pro-2 and style n. Cf. F. prostyle (1691 in Hatz.-Darm.).]
A. n. A portico in front of a Greek temple, of which the columns, never more than four in number, stood in front of the building.
