1. One who overthrows or throws down prostrate.

2. Eccl. Hist. Used (chiefly pl.) as a rendering of Gr. γονυκλίνοντες, ὑποπίπτοντες, or L. genuflectentes, prostrati, the third order of penitents in the early Church (see quots.). Cf. kneeler 2.
