1) 作为形容词（重音在第一音节），present 放在名词之前表示“现在的、目前的”。

• at the present time在目前
• in the present case在当前这件事情上
• the present writer作者（我）。

放在名词之后作为定语或表语，则表示“在场的”。

• all those present全体到会者
• a protein present in the blood血液中包含的一种蛋白质
• She was present at the ceremony.她参加了该仪式。

试比较：the members present 到会的成员，the present members 现有的成员。

2) 作为动词（重音在末音节，及物，第四类），同 provide 和 supply 相似，搭配比较特别，可以是容易理解的 to present something to somebody。

• to present a petition to the government向政府提出请愿，但也可以是 to present somebody with something。

• This model of monopoly presents the world with the threat that energy supplies can be broken off at any moment for political, not economic, reasons.这种垄断模式，使得全世界面临一个威胁，就是能源供应随时可能因为政治原因而非经济原因而被切断。
