The name of a town in Switzerland used to designate the conference held there and the treaties signed as a result in 1925 between Germany and several other European countries for the preservation of peace and the continuation of existing territorial boundaries. So transf., a similar conference, treaty, or agreement. Hence Loˈcarnist n., a supporter or advocate of the policy adopted at the Locarno Conference; also as adj.; Loˈcarnize v. intr., to settle disputes by pacific means.
