One who or that which localizes; spec. in Aeronaut., a device for transmitting a narrow vertical radio beam along a runway by means of which an incoming aircraft can be brought into line with it and any lateral deviation automatically corrected. (In quot. 1872, ‘a reporter of local items’.)
