1) 两个名词的意义相同，都是“意图”、“打算”。只是在使用上有些区别（参见 intention）。Intent 比较正式，适用范围有限，不能自由搭配，通常只能用于一些比较固定的结构。

• with good (evil) intent出于善意（恶意）
• with criminal intent以犯罪为目的
• letter (declaration) of intent意向书
• loitering with intent蓄意徘徊。

但是 intent 后面可以加上 to inf. 表示其内容，intention 则不可，要用 of + -ing 形式。

• with (the) intent to iron out differences以便消除分歧
• The conference declared its intent to organize a nation-wide movement.会议宣布打算组织一个全国性的运动。

2) intent 还可以作为形容词，表示“专心”或“决心”，后面可以加上 on + 名词或动名词。

• He gazed at their intent faces.他注视他们全神贯注的脸容。
• He was silent, intent on the meal.他一声不响，埋头用餐。
• They were intent on his downfall.他们有意要使他垮台。
• They were intent on keeping what they had.他们决心保住自己的所得。
• ... the author is so intent on being clever that he usually forgets to be anything more. (Babette Deutsch, Yale Review, December 1953)…作者一心一意要显示聪明，因而往往忘掉别的。
