[a. It., perh. ult. ad. late Lat. sabaia an Illyrian drink.]
A dessert consisting of egg yolks, sugar, and (usu. Marsala) wine, whipped to a frothy texture over a gentle heat and served either hot or cold. Cf. sabayon.
