The name of Hidetsugu Yagi (b. 1886), Japanese scholar and electrical engineer, used attrib. and absol. to designate a highly directional aerial that he invented (Proc. IRE (1928) XVI. 715) for receiving or transmitting VHF or UHF waves within a narrow frequency band, consisting of a number of short rods mounted transversely on an insulating support that points towards the signal source.
