The name of the Wistar Institute of Anatomy and Biology, Philadelphia (founded by I. J. Wistar (1827–1905), grandnephew of Caspar Wistar (see wistaria)), used attrib. to designate rats bred from a strain developed at the Institute for laboratory purposes.
