Pl. vici.
[a. L. vīcus village, group of dwellings. Niermeyer's Med. Lat. Lex. Minus (1976) 1097–1100 distinguishes twelve types of settlement known as vicus.]
In the Roman Empire: a village or settlement; spec. the smallest unit of ancient Roman municipal administration, consisting of a village, part of a town, etc. Hence also used of some medieval European townships.
