[ad. F. trityle (Chancel, 1853), so called as being the third of the series of alcohol radicals of the form CnH2n+1: see trito- and -yl, and cf. tetryl, pentyl, hexyl, etc.]
The radical C3H7, now called propyl. Hence † ˈtritylene = propylene, † triˈtylic a. = propylic, etc.
