The most active known naturally occurring œstrogenic hormone in mammals, C18H22(OH)2, which is formed in the ovarian follicles, controls the growth of the female sexual organs and some functions of the uterus, and is used, e.g., in treating the menopausal syndrome and conditions associated with hypoplasia of the genital tract.
