a. A spindle-cell of the lower vertebrates, responsible for the clotting of blood.
1893Jrnl. R. Microsc. Soc. 25 In analogy with Löwit's nomenclature he uses the ending ‘blast’ for young forms, and ‘cyt’ for those which are adult.
