thranite Gr. Antiq.|ˈθreɪnaɪt| [ad. Gr. θρᾱνίτης, f. θρᾶνος bench.] In the ancient trireme, a rower in one of the tiers, as generally supposed, the uppermost tier, which had the longest oars and hardest work; but the actual arrangement is disputed. Also attrib.
