1. The monovalent radical of the tetracarbon series, C4H9, also called butyl; chiefly attrib. = tetrylic, as in tetryl hydride = tetrane, tetryl acetate, tetryl alcohol, tetryl aldehyde, tetryl chloride, tetryl oxide, tetryl sulphide, etc.; tetryl compounds, tetryl group, tetryl series, etc.
