A granular compound, C₁₀H₉NO₄, = phenyltartrimide, produced by dehydration of acid tartrate of aniline by expulsion of 2H₂O. Hence tarˈtranilate, a salt of tartranilic acid; tartraˈnilic tartranilic acid, C₁₀H₁₁NO₅, obtained by boiling tartranil with aqueous ammonia; tarˈtranilide, C₁₆H₁₆N₂O₄, a substance produced by the action of heat on neutral tartrate of aniline, by expulsion of 2H₂O.
