[a. Carrier dakełne (pl. of dakeł) Carriers, Indians; lit. ‘people who go by boat on the water.’]
A name for the Carrier Indians of British Columbia: at first used only for the eastern Carrier, but later extended to include the Babine Indians of Babine Lake and the Bulkley River.

Hale Ethnol. & Philol. 201 The country of the Tahkali (or Tacullies) includes the region north of the Oregon Territory, termed by the English New Caledonia. 1932D. Jenness Indians of Canada xxii. 363 The Carrier..had no common name for themselves, only names for the independent sub⁓tribes into which they were divided. In the nineteenth century, however, they adopted for themselves the obscure title Takulli, bestowed on them apparently by Europeans. 1974Encycl. Brit.
