The name of Robert Swinhoe (fl. 1862–3), British consul in Taiwan, used in the possessive, as Swinhoe's pheasant (occas. kaleege [kaleege, kalij]), to designate Lophura swinhoei, a brightly coloured pheasant native to Taiwan, where he first collected it in 1862. Also ellipt. as Swinhoe's.
