A shoe or boot on which the lower edge of the upper is turned outward and stitched on to the sole; a veldt-shoe. Also stitchdown shoe.

Stiff Texan Emigrant vii. 95 During the intolerable hot weather in the summer of 1838, the same Kentucky jeans pants, the same pair of stitchdowns,..adorned the tall and disproportioned outward man. 1916F. Plucknett Introd. Boot & Shoe Manuf. xxx. 258 The ‘veldtschoen’, or ‘stitchdown’, has passed through so many stages that no description of it would correctly describe its production in all factories. The principal idea is that the edge of the upper (except just around the heel) shall be turned outward instead of being folded over the edge of an insole, and that this projecting flap shall be attached to the sole with a vertical thread seam. 1940Chambers's Techn.
