A hydrous basic phosphate of scandium occurring as transparent, usually colourless, orthorhombic crystals, and now identified with kolbeckite (eggonite).

The mineral is named sterrettite in honor of Dr. Douglas B. Sterrett who was one of the first investigators of the Utah and Nevada variscite deposits.1959Bull. Geol. Soc. Amer.
