spudgel, n. dial. (chiefly Newfoundland).|ˈspʌdʒəl| [Of uncertain origin, but perh. related to spud n., spuddle v. First recorded in Newfoundland sources, though the Eng. dial. uses doubtless predate this.] A small bowl or bucket with a long handle used for scooping water (esp. when bailing out a boat) and for similar purposes.
