The name of Zdenko Hans Skraup (1850–1910), Czech chemist, used attrib. and in the possessive to denote a reaction which he discovered (Sitzungsber. der K. Akad. der Wissensch. (Math.-Nat. Classe) (1880) LXXXI. ii. 593), in which a quinoline is synthesized by heating a primary aromatic amine with glycerol, sulphuric acid, and an oxidizing agent.
