In Jewish sabbatical liturgy, one of the fifty-four sections of the Pentateuch read in the Synagogue at the Sabbath morning service. Cf. parashah.

The sedras must be read at the morning Sabbath services during the year, but as a year has only 52 weeks, in order to finish the sedras two of them are read on two special Sabbaths. 1962New Jewish Encycl. 370/2 In common usage, the word ‘Parashah’ also refers to the entire Sidrah (or Sedrah), or to any of the various sections or paragraphs in the scroll of the Torah.
