The name of Arthur Scherbius (fl. 1906), German engineer, used attrib. with reference to a method which he devised for regulating and changing the speed of large a.c. induction motors, in which the voltage applied to the rotor is altered according to the load by means of a separate commutator motor and flywheel assembly wired in series with it.
