[a. OF. sengler, sangler, sanglier (mod.F. sanglier) = Pr. singlar-s, senglar-s, It. cinghiale, cignare:—L. singulārem solitary (see singular a.), used subst. in late L. (Vulg. Ps. lxxix. 14 after Gr. µονιός in the LXX) for a boar separated from the herd.
