1. Coal-mining. (See quot.)
1860Eng. & Foreign Mining Gloss. 77 Rodney, a roughly constructed platform, with old rails, near the pit's mouth, upon which a large fire is made during the winter nights, to light the bank.
2. An idler or loafer; a casual worker; a disreputable character. Also attrib., hulking, rough.
