An antibiotic substance (now known to be a mixture) obtained from the actinomycete Nocardia lurida and formerly used to treat staphylococcal infections.
1957W. E. Grundy et al. in Antibiotics Ann. 1956–7 687 A new antibiotic that has been given the generic name ristocetin was isolated from the fermentation beer of an actinomycete. 1960M. E.
