1. A word expressive of a loud banging noise; hence n. as a name for this, and † attrib. = noisy.

intr. To make a noise with unruly singing, and the beating of pots and kettles, at the house of a man who has beaten his wife. Also trans., with husband as obj. Hence ˌranˈtanning vbl. n.

Brogden Provincial Words & Expressions Lincs. 163 Ran-dan, to ride the stang (or pole) connected with agricultural lynch-law, usually applied to husbands who have beaten their wives. 1886Folk-Lore Jrnl.
