Also (erron.) prussik, and with initial capital.
[f. the name of Karl Prusik, Austrian mountaineer.]
Used to designate a method invented by Dr. Prusik of ascending a climbing rope by means of two separate continuous loops, each attached to it by a special knot (prusik knot) which tightens when weight is applied and slackens when it is removed, thus enabling the loop to be moved up the rope. Also ellipt. as n. Hence as v., to climb with the aid of prusik loops or similar devices; ˈprusiking vbl. n.
