B. n. Anc. Pros. A verse consisting of three anapæsts, for the first of which a spondee or iambus may be substituted.

[ad. late L. prosōdiacus = Gr. προσῳδιακός (Victorinus and Martianus Capella, 4th and 5th c.) (p. metrus, numeri), with sense ‘of or pertaining to prosody’.
But Gr. προσῳδιακός is, according to Liddell and Scott, an erroneous form of προσοδιακός (f. προσόδιον (µέλος) a processional song), an adj. denoting the metrical foot (——˘) in processional songs, and unconnected with προσῳδία, though app. confused with it in Latin (which had only o for Gr. ο and ω; hence in the mod. langs. referred to prosody.]
= prosodic.
