[erron. f. Gr. πρό (? taken as opp. Gr. α-, in amastigote) + µαστιγ-, µάστιξ whip (used to render flagellum) + -ωτης (see -ot² and -ote).]
(Applied to) the flagellated form assumed by parasitic protozoans of the genus Leishmania when carried by arthropods.
