[ad. G. pregnan (A. Butenandt 1930, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. LXIII. 660), f. pregnan-diol pregnanediol (cf. -ane).]
A synthetic, crystalline, saturated, tetracyclic hydrocarbon, C21H36, which has two stereoisomeric forms and from which a group of steroids, including progesterone and pregnanediol, is formally derived; spec. the 5β-isomer.
