b. pourriture noble [lit. ‘noble rot’: see noble a. 7 f]: a common grey mould, Botrytis cinerea, affecting grapes, which is deliberately cultivated to perfect certain French and German wines, and Tokay; the condition of being affected by this mould; also ellipt. as pourriture.
