[mod. f. Gr. πόρος pore n.1 + type.]
A print made upon prepared paper by exposing an engraving or writing to some gas which penetrates those parts not rendered impervious by the ink, and bleaches or discolours the paper so as to produce a copy of the original, in the same way as light produces a copy from a photographic negative.
1884Knight Dict. Mech. Suppl., Porotype, a method of copying engravings. It depends upon the fact that the portion of the face of the print occupied by ink is non⁓porous.
