▪ I. polt, n. Obs. exc. dial.|pəʊlt|
[Origin obscure: in sense 1 it may be a variant of palt n.; but cannot easily be connected with pelt. It is not certain that sense 2 is the same word.]
1. A blow, a hard rap or knock. Now dial.
