pergelisol |
| 释义 |
pergelisol Geomorphol.|pɜːˈdʒɛlɪsɒl| [f. per-1 + L. gel-āre to freeze + -i- + -sol.] = permafrost.
1946K. Bryan in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. CCXLIV. 635 It is impossible to make a verb or a verbal noun from ‘permafrost’ as ‘permafrosting’ and ‘permafrosted’ imply that a permanent surface or coating has been applied... Further, the term cannot be easily converted into other European languages. These various objections can be met by a new term... Such a word is ‘pergelisol’. 1963Geomorphol. Abstr. 38 Canada, in the opinion of Dr. Hamelin, can be divided into eleven periglacial ‘provinces’. The first four provinces: Elizabeth, Victoria, Keewatin and Innuit are closely associated with continuous pergelisol. 1968R. W. Fairbridge Encycl. Geomorphol. 1185/1 The south- to west-facing slopes thaw earlier and more deeply than the opposite ones, where the pergelisol remains near the surface. 1972Sparks & West Ice Age in Brit. iv. 99 With this wholly admirable intensification of study [of periglacial phenomena] has come a wholly regettable spate of jargon, not all of which fortunately has found favour. Thus, most people still speak of frost shattering rather than congelifraction, active layer rather than mollisol, permafrost rather than pergelisol. |
