perbromic acid: HBrO4, a strong acid with oxidizing properties that was first prepared in 1968. Hence perˈbromate, a salt of this acid.
Claims for the preparation of the acid and its salts in the 19th c. proved to be mistaken.
1864Chem. News 30 Apr. 205/2 Perbromic acid has been fruitlessly investigated by many chemists, but M. Kaemmerer has obtained it in the most simple manner by treating perchloric acid with bromine.
