Of or derived from the genus Pelargonium; esp. in pelargonic acid, a fatty acid, C9H18O2, prepared from the volatile oil of plants of this genus; nonylic acid. So peˈlargonate, a salt of pelargonic acid; ˈpelargone, a crystalline substance, soluble in ether, obtained by the dry distillation of barium pelargonate; peˈlargoˌnene, a hydrocarbon obtained among the products of the dry distillation of hydroleic or metoleic acid; ˈpelargyl, the radical of pelargonic acid (C9H17O).
