[ad. L. patavīnitās, f. Patavīn-us of or pertaining to Patavium, now Padua, the birth-place of the Roman historian Livy.]
The dialectal characteristics of Patavium or Padua, as shown in Livy's writings; hence gen. provincialism in style; also an instance of this, a provincial word or usage. (Cf. Paduanism.)
