A broad-spectrum antibiotic that is a mixture of the sulphates of certain substances (chemically related to neomycin) produced by some strains of the bacterium Streptomyces rimosus, and is given orally in the treatment of intestinal infections. Also called paromomycin sulphate.
1956Brit. Pat. 797,568 Paromomycin is a stable amorphous white substance which is very soluble in water, moderately soluble in methanol and sparingly soluble in absolute ethanol. 1964M. Hynes Med.
