[Name of Alexander Parkes (1813–90), English chemist and inventor, who first patented the process in 1850 (Brit. Pat. 13,118).]
Parkes (or † Parkes', ¶ Parke's) process: a process for removing silver and gold from lead by adding zinc to the molten lead, so that the precious metals form an alloy with the zinc and collect on the surface.
