[f. Gr. παν- all + σοϕία wisdom; forming an abstr. n. to Gr. πάνσοϕος adj. ‘all-wise’.]
1. Universal or cyclopædic knowledge; a scheme or cyclopædic work embracing the whole body of human knowledge.
In its Latin form used by J. A. Comenius (Komensky) of Moravia in 1639, in the title of a book, Prodromus Pansophiæ, giving a sort of prospectus of a universal cyclopædia.
