The name of Henry Khunrath Pancoast (1875–1939), U.S. radiologist, used attrib. and in the possessive in Pancoast('s) syndrome, the clinical manifestation of a Pancoast tumour, caused by involvement of the brachial plexus and characterized by pain and numbness on the inner surface of the arm, atrophy of the small hand muscles, and Horner's syndrome; Pancoast('s) tumour, a carcinoma of the apex of the lung (described by Pancoast in Jrnl. Amer. Med. Assoc. (1932) 22 Oct. 1391).
