[a. F. palinodie, ad. L. (It., Sp., Pg.) palinōdia, a. Gr. παλινῳδία singing over again, repetition, esp. recantation, f. πάλιν back again, over again, + ᾠδή song: ‘a name first given to an ode by Stesichorus, in which he recants his attack upon Helen’ (Liddell and Scott).]
