A salt or ester of osmic acid (H2OsO4) in which osmium has an oxidation state of 6, and in the case of alkali metals having the formula M2[OsO2(OH)4] and obtainable by the action of a reducing agent such as alcohol on an alkaline solution of osmium tetroxide.
