The name of a group of islands off the north coast of Scotland, applied attrib. to various local animals and products; Orkney sheep, a small feral sheep distinguished by horns curving backwards and a brown, white, or speckled fleece; Orkney vole, a larger subspecies of the European vole, Microtus arvalis orcadensis, found only in the Orkney Islands.
