1. A bird of the genus Oriolus, esp. O. galbula (the Golden Oriole), a summer visitor to Europe and the British Islands, with plumage of a rich yellow contrasted with black; also extended to any bird of the family Oriolidæ, comprising various species of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
