Used in forming the names of complex cations that contain a more or less electronegative central atom, usu. bonded to a number of protons (or to other species that are regarded as substituents), as arsonium, carbonium, hydrazonium, nitronium, oxonium, phosphonium, tetrachlorophosphonium, etc.
