A yellow antifungal substance, C46H77NO19, that is produced by the growth of the bacterium Streptomyces noursei and is used locally in the treatment of moniliasis, esp. when caused by Candida albicans, and of anal and vaginal infections.
1952Arch. Pediatrics LXIX. 414 Hazen et al. have shown that an antibiotic called fungicidin, Nystatin®, has inhibited coccidioides immitis spherules at 6·25 micrograms per milliliter.
