suffix from Russian (cf. kolkhoznik, Narodnik, sputnik) and Yiddish, appended to ns. and adjs. to denote a person or thing involved in or associated with the thing or quality specified, as beatnik, folknik, no-goodnik, nudnik, peacenik. Often with humorous or pejorative connotations.
